Frequently Asked Questions
Answers about IMSO IDs, categories, licensing, DOIs, updates, and how the registry supports the gold standard in movement science.
What is an IMSO ID?
+
An IMSO ID is a permanent identifier for a record in the IMSO Registry. It encodes category, year, serial, tag, and document type (e.g.,
IMSO-EX-2025-001-SQ-BP).
How do I choose a category?
+
Pick the category that best reflects your contribution (EX, RS, PM, BM, ED, EQ, etc.). See IMSO Categories for examples.
Is IMSO peer review?
+
IMSO is a permanent registry with a lightweight acceptance check (fit, completeness, policy compliance). Scientific peer review happens separately (e.g., via MMSx Journal or other journals).
Can I get a DOI?
+
Yes. On registration, you can opt to mirror to Zenodo for a free DOI. Your DOI will be linked on your IMSO record page alongside your IMSO ID.
What licenses are supported?
+
Creative Commons (recommended: CC BY 4.0). Proprietary assets are possible with restricted access, but public metadata stays open.
Can I update my record?
+
Yes — publish a new version. IMSO maintains the record family history and links all versions under the primary IMSO ID.
Is IMSO permanent?
+
Yes. IMSO is designed for permanence. In rare, justified cases (legal/ethical), a record may be retracted with a tombstone notice. See Policies.
What about personal data?
+
De-identify individuals and comply with applicable laws and ethics approvals. See the Data Protection and Ethics sections in Policies.
How do I cite an IMSO record?
+
Include authors, title, year, version, and IMSO ID (and DOI if present). Example:
Author A; Author B (2025). Title. IMSO-EX-2025-001-SQ-BP (v1). DOI: …
Where do I start?
+
Go to Register a Record, complete the form, and upload your primary PDF (plus optional supplements). You’ll receive a tracking reference and email follow-up.
